The regulation exam tests the candidate on personal tax, corporate tax, business law, just to name a few of the topics. To view a detailed content specification outline of the exam visit the AICPA website.
I took this section of the exam for the first time on February 12, 2011. I scored a 72, so close yet so far. I took this section again on April 23, 2011. I use Becker study material.
I chose to use the self study method provided by Becker. This entails watching a DVD on your computer for each chapter, which is 3 to 4 hours in length, reading the chapter and answering the multiple choice questions provided in the study software. I also used flashcards, some purchased from Becker and others I made on topics that I was struggling with. I punched a whole in the flashcards and put them on a key ring. This way I could easily put a chapter of note cards in my purse and use them every spare moment available.
I also outlined each chapter, as outlined in the study software and book in an excel spreadsheet. This tool was a great gauge for me to know how I had been progressing, the areas I was struggling in, and the areas that I had nailed. If there were areas that I got less than a 75 on, I answered all the questions again, sometimes reading the specific section of the chapter or watching the DVD section.
